Regular Care Sought By More English-Speaking Hispanics

Hispanics who speak English regularly are more likely to receive regular medical care than those Hispanics who do not, according to a study by the Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ).

The survey found that less than half of Hispanics who are not English speakers regularly received regular care from a family doctor or community health clinic. Of that group, 60 percent are uninsured. Sixty-three percent of Hispanics who were proficient in English received regular care and 30 percent were inunsured.

The measure of English proficiency was determined by asking if English was their common household language and if participants felt comfortable using English conversationally.
